True 1930s dress, cut on the bias in a textured crepe, in a grey-toned ivory, creating the characteristic swoop across the body associated with the era's fluid, draped tailoring. Wide cowl neckline at both the front and back. Puffed, cinched sleeves, with hand-smocked shoulder yokes. Secures at the side with a series of hand-sewn hook-and-eye fasteners, predating the widespread use of metal zippers. Pulled over the head to wear.
Condition: Very good
Several small age-related marks scattered through the skirt, consistent with a piece of this age. These have been treated with a gentle stain remover but have not disappeared completely (see photos)
The seams at the inside of the cowl neck are fraying, but this is aesthetic rather than structural
The neckline falls as a cowl with shirred gathering at the shoulder. The cowl may originally have had a weight sewn in to help it fall
