A truly special early 1930s silk bolero and dress set in vibrant shades of red and orange—autumn in a dress. Both pieces are expertly handmade from sheer, textured silk chiffon that feels light as air. The dress is sleeveless with a V-neckline, cut on the bias and beautifully pieced and panelled. It features a handkerchief hem with delicately hand-rolled edges and drapes beautifully—sheer, fluid, and elegant.
The matching bolero is cropped with bracelet-length sleeves and features an added panel of fabric to create a soft flounce. The stitching is incredibly fine and precise, reflecting the high level of skill and time that went into its creation. A remarkable, one-of-a-kind ensemble.
Please note: Due to the nature of the fabric, this is a very delicate piece and should be worn and stored with great care. I will include a cover with purchase, but ideally, it should be stored folded in acid-free tissue paper to preserve its condition.
Condition: Excellent for its age — truly remarkable. I’ve done a very small, discreet mend just above the popper closure to repair a tiny rip (see photo). Aside from that, there’s very little to note. The poppers may need re-anchoring at some point, and there are a couple of minor frays to the seams, but nothing that affects wear or structure.
