One of my favourite finds of the year. This beautiful step-in dates from the 1910s to around 1920 and has some really lovely detailing. Made from very fine, lightweight cotton, it is semi-sheer and softly structured, with classic bloomer-style legs and a button-down back.
The crotch is open to around mid-thigh, as typical of the period. The neckline is rounded and threaded with ribbon, with a delicate butterfly motif that is also is repeated on the legs. Sheer lace trim finishes the bust and sleeves and is echoed again at the cuffs, where ribbon is also laced through. A special and well-preserved example of early 20th-century lingerie.
Condition: Fabulous for its age. The only issue is some fraying at the leg openings, shown in the photos. Still very wearable.
