1940s 'Harrods' Chambray Workwear Nurses Dress
An absolutely fascinating piece. Did you know that Harrods - the infamous department store in Knightsbridge, London - has been making nurse uniforms since the 1890s?! Most likely made for an in-house nurse (rather than buyable wares) this lovely dress would have been part of the uniform. It is made from a lovely lightweight chambray and would have been worn with an apron, pin-on collar and cuffs and nurse hat.
Secures with press stud and buttonhole at the back of the neck, button through to waist, and a hook & eye fastening at waistband. The sleeves taper to 4 buttons at the cuff, and the skirt has a single turn-over style pocket and tiered hemline.
The majority of the dress is in great condition. However, there is some fading, small stains, and some rust-coloured specks on one sleeve....!
