A stunning 1940s little black dress—perfect for evening wear with just the right touch of sparkle! This elegant piece comes from Susan Small, a British ready-to-wear brand founded in the early 1940s by Leslie Carr Jones. This dress is a rare example from the beginning of the label’s history, designed specifically for the petite woman—a focus of the brand until it expanded its sizing in the 1960s.
Crafted from high-quality crepe, the dress is cut for a petite figure and falls to a flattering midi length. It features a wide wrap-style sash at the hips, padded and puffed shoulders, intricate ruching, and a charming hook-and-eye front bust. Clear gems, sewn onto the shoulders, bust, sleeves, and waist, add a subtle sparkle, catching the light beautifully with every movement. The dress fastens at the side with its original metal zip, alongside hook-and-eye and popper closures at the sash waist. A very lovely piece that really comes to life on the body.
Condition: Excellent. Minimal wear with some light gem discolouration and a few potentially missing gems, though not noticeable when worn.
