This stunning 'Lee Delman' gown is a true vintage gem! Dating from the late 1930s or early 1940s, it epitomises the ball gown style of the era with a fuller skirt, puffy short sleeves, and a high waist. The craftsmanship is exquisite, showcasing some unique and uncommon design elements. The full-length gown is crafted from high-quality, flocked pink velvet with squared shoulders and hip shaping that create a bold, structured silhouette.
The ruched bodice is complemented by ruffled panels on the sleeves, while the slightly dropped waist leads into a heavily gathered, voluminous skirt. The dress is unlined except for the stiff, canvas-like inner hip panels and large shoulder pads that add to the dramatic effect. It fastens at the side with a metal AVRO zipper, and the velvet feels luxuriously smooth to the touch.
Condition: Very good. The velvet shows some wear on the back (see photo 11) and there is light discolouration along the skirt hem, as well as a tiny stain near the bottom (see photo 12).
