An utterly divine late 1940s chore-style jacket, likely made as a hunting or outdoor sports piece rather than a standard winter coat. It has a beautifully structured shape with a sharp collar, bracelet-length sleeves, and a strong, boxy silhouette. The outer is crafted from deep red hairy wool, while the inner is lined with sturdy canvas for warmth and durability.
It fastens with its original Talon zip down the front and features two outer hip pockets alongside several hidden inner compartments. The outer pockets have lapels that can be tucked in or out—I’ve tucked them in for all photos except photo 8 & 9. All pockets are lined with soft marled wool. At the neckline are four small buttons, likely intended for attaching a hood. A rare and striking utility piece with a great weight to it.
Condition: Presents very well, and the outer is in excellent condition. The left cuff is perfect, the right right is indented deeply where the canvas has folded under. The inner canvas is stained to the max! Clearly a very well worn and used jacket. However, these stains and marks are hidden when worn. Has been steam cleaned and treated with anti moth product.
